Begin by logging into the Smart EPD Platform and creating a new project workspace. Here you’ll define the project name, add your project team, and set up the structure that will guide your EPD development.

Choose the appropriate Product Category Rules (PCR) for your product, or — if one doesn’t exist — begin creating a new PCR with support from the Smart EPD team. A PCR is a standardized rulebook that defines how to measure and report the environmental impacts of a specific group of products. It ensures that Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for similar products are created consistently and can be fairly compared.

Complete the LCA internally using an approved pre‑verified platform, or work with one of Smart EPD’s recommended LCA partners to generate the necessary environmental impact model.

Upload your completed LCA, required metadata, and images directly into the Smart EPD Platform. If you’re using a native LCA tool, you can also submit seamlessly through the Smart EPD API.

Smart EPD assigns an independent verifier who reviews your supporting materials, LCA model, and draft EPD. You’ll receive consolidated reviewer comments — typically within about two weeks — to address before finalization.

Once verified, your EPD is published digitally in the Smart EPD Library. A downloadable, standards‑compliant PDF version is automatically generated from the digital source.

Smart EPD pushes your EPD data to procurement tools like EC3, supports annual maintenance requirements, and manages republication workflows to ensure your EPD stays up to date.
